Releasing Equity in Glasgow.
Glasgow1 is a city in Scotland best known for its culture, architecture, and history. The birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and the location of the world’s first subway system, Glasgow has fostered an unparalleled sense of creativity that can be seen in all aspects of life within the city. It has also become one of Europe’s most prosperous cities thanks to its vibrant economy and large student population.
Glasgow is one of the largest cities in Scotland, UK. The history of Glasgow goes back to Roman times when it was a military outpost and trading post on the River Clyde. It has just over 600,000 people who live within its boundary, which was set in 1912. The origin of this name is unclear, but it may derive from Old English glas cau meaning “green hollow”. It was established as a Royal Burgh in 1186. After periods under Viking control, it became one of Scotland’s most important towns, albeit often overshadowed by Edinburgh, closer to the Scottish court or Dundee where King James VI had taken up residence following his coronation in 1603.
The city region is now home to over 20 per cent of Scotland’s population, with a metropolitan area spanning some 120 kilometres from northeast to south-west by 65 kilometres from east to the river Clyde estuary Clydebank. At the same time, Strathclyde Region also includes outlying townships of East Renfrewshire with Barrhead, East Dunbartonshire with Bearsden)and North Lanarkshire, including Airdrie. Geographically this ranges from the lowlands around Paisley southwards through affluent commuter villages to the steel city of Hamilton with its giant Ravenscraig Steelworks.
The region’s population is around two million (2012), covering a land area of over 900 square kilometres. It has one major airport at Glasgow International Airport on the outskirts of Paisley with another in Prestwick, which mainly serves international routes from Northern Ireland and Ryanair flights for passengers travelling into Scotland from other countries across Europe.
